The Other End of the Street

So if you come out of the Sparrow, turn left and keep heading up Fraser Street, this is the view you would have seen. On the south side of the street stood the Red Boot Shop, Furniture Shop, South Ward and Sumption and the Union Bank. Sadly all the buildings around and including the Red Boot Shop have been lost to time, but we still have the Bank on the corner of Fraser and Templeton.
I can almost smell the horse manure in this picture!
Oh for a time machine...just for a visit!

A Letter to Aunt Patsy

While searching on Trove recently, I stumbled across this letter, written to the children’s section of newspaper The Melbourne Advocate in 1911. This young fellow by the name of Tom Carroll extols the virtues of his home town Clunes, and makes it sound like a rather lovely place to be! (And it still is.)

Today things are much different, and the number of fruit shops has decreased alarmingly! But we still have some wonderful shops to visit, of course, especially the one that belongs to Yours Truly.
